Shooting Leaves 1 Injured, 1 Arrested in Danville

One person was flown to the hospital and another was arrested after a shooting in Danville Friday night, police said.

According to a release by the Danville Police Department, officers responded to Jerry’s Body Shop on Roy Arnold after they received a call for shots fired around 11:00 p.m. Friday.

When officers arrived, they found two people in a physical fight, the release said. Police identified the men as Jerry Mathes, the owner of the body shop, and Ricky Cole.

According to the police statement, Mathes was holding a .357 magnum handgun when police arrived. Officers were able to disarm Mathes and separate him from Cole.

Once they were separated, officers noticed that Cole had been shot in the abdomen, police said. He was flown to University of Kentucky Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

According to police, Cole and Mathes had been in a verbal argument about a vehicle that Mathes had been working on for Cole.

Mathes was arrested for attempted murder, police said. During his arrest, officers found a small packet of drugs in his possession.

Officers field tested the substance and said it tested positive for cocaine. Mathes was also charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Mathes is lodged in the Boyle County Detention Center.
