Shooting Hoops for Lupus Awareness
Several Kentucky schools are using basketball to promote wellness.
Every team in Saturday’s high school girls basketball tournament raised awareness for lupus, breast cancer or Alzheimer’s charities.
“Life is short, you know to take care of yourself and to understand that everything’s not about you, it’s about other people who are suffering with these diseases,” said Tina Winn, Tates Creek High School girls basketball head coach.
Winn says she got the idea for this health fair tournament after her daughter passed away from lupus two years ago.
“It’s a tough time of the year for me, so to help me get through it I wanted to do something to bring awareness to this disease. She was only 22. Just let kids know it can affect them, as well as adults,” said Winn.
13 teams competed in Saturday’s Fair.
