UPDATE: Lexington man accused of gunning down neighbor

UPDATE (10:27 a.m.): A man is charged with the fatal shooting of his neighbor in an apartment building in Lexington.

Police say 58-year-old Terrence Fister shot his 37-year-old neighbor as the man was walking down a stairwell at the Spanish Trace Apartments in the 2300 block of Harrodsburg Road.

Investigators say there was some kind of disorder in the building just before the shooting.  Details of that disorder were not released by investigators.

The Fayette County coroner identified the victim as Robert Cole Smith, who died at the hospital.

Police say Fister remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- A shooting sent one person to go to the hospital Wednesday night, according to Lexington police.

Officers say they were called to an apartment off Harrodsburg Road near Cardinal Lane around 8:30 p.m. for a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police say someone was trying to break into the man’s apartment, when the man came out, he got into an argument with a different person. They say the argument escalated and the person being confronted shot the man who lives in the apartment building.

Officers say the victim’s injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

They say they have the suspect in custody for questioning.
