Shooting almost hits baby in a home

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A six month old baby was almost hit by a bullet during a double shooting last night.

It happened on Waxwing Way in Lexington.

Police say shots were fired into the house where the baby lives and two men were shot outside the home.

The mother of the baby, Victoria Hamptom, says this isn’t the first time she’s heard gun shots in the neighborhood, but it is the first time she’s seen gunshots hit her home.

Our records show this month there were two other shooting that happened in the area of Walden Drive.

Hamptom was downstairs on the couch and her baby was sitting in her toy chair when the shooting happened.

She walked outside the door into the hallway and didn’t see anything.

Once she went on her porch she heard someone yelling out a person has been shot.

“All I heard was shots and I was shocked,” said Victoria Hamptom.

Hamptom said she heard about 12 gunshots, but the part that scares her the most is that a bullet was only a foot away from hitting her daughter.

Hamptom continued saying she’s scared to come home and hopes to live somewhere else soon.

A four and five year old were also home and were asleep during the shooting.

The two people that were shot were taken to the hospital and are expected to live.

Officers say they are still searching for anyone who might be involved.
