UPDATE: Sheriff searches for suspect in baseball bat beating case

LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Laurel Co. Sheriff has identified the man he says beat a woman with a baseball bat in the woods of Dorthae Road Friday evening.

The Sheriff says they are now looking for 42-year-old David Stewart, of Lily.  Stewart is also wanted on trespassing and stalking charges.

Investigators believe Stewart knows law enforcement officials are looking for him.

The Laurel Co. Sheriff says deputies are trying to confirm the identity of a suspect he says badly beat a woman.

Deputies say they were called out Friday evening at about 7:00 p.m. in reference to the assault.  When they arrived, deputies say the woman told them that her baby’s father had beaten her with a baseball bat in the woods off Dorthae Road.

The deputy says the victim had numerous injuries on her head, face, and legs.  She was taken to Corbin Health Care and later transferred to UK Med Center for further treatment.

The Sheriff says investigators are working to confirm the identity of the suspect.
