Sheriff: Scammers targeting sex offenders

JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office says scammers appear to be targeting people who are on the Sex Offender Registry.

Deputies say two people were contacted by a person claiming they were with the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office. The two were told there was a warrant out on them and they needed to purchase and send Google cards.

The two were scammed out of almost $3,000 each.

The people being scammed are listed sex offenders, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office says it does not call people and tell them they have warrants on them.
