Sheriff: 7 heroin overdoses in 18 hours in Rowan County; one death

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WTVQ) – Rowan County is the latest to report a rash of heroin overdoses. The sheriff issued an emergency message Thursday night after seven people overdosed in an 18-hour period in the county. The Rowan County coroner says one of the overdose victim’s died; a 36-year old man.

The survivors reportedly received the Narcan antidote.

Morehead-Rowan County EMS Director, Danny Blevins, says the swarm of apparent heroin overdoses resulted from the circulation of deadly doses of altered heroin in the area.

The sheriff is using Code Red alerts to encourage relatives and friends of known users to discourage use of the drug.

If you can’t convince them not to use, call law enforcement at 606-784-7511 or call 911.
