Shelter order lifted near recycled tire fire
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — People who live near a fire at a tire recycling business in Louisville are being allowed to resume normal activities as a shelter-in-place order has been lifted.
Crews worked late Monday and Tuesday to smother the fire with dirt and believe most of the flames are covered.
WDRB-TV reports one firefighter suffered minor injuries Monday night and was taken to a hospital. He has been released.
The Courier-Journal said Liberty Tire Recycling has been cited twice in the last two years by the state for improper storage of shredded tires. The newspaper said the company didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Arson investigators are trying to determine a cause of the blaze, which was reported Monday morning in the southwestern portion of the city.
