Several snow chances ahead, lasting through the weekend

Thursday starts slick for some

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for several counties in the SE Bluegrass through 10 M Thursday. Some roads, especially in higher elevations, may see accumulations of snow and therefore some slick spots. This may impact the morning commute in these areas. Others won’t see these impacts, as the further north and west you go, the less snow you see. There may be a light coating of snow on cars and sidewalks.

Through the rest of the day, temperatures will be chilly. We will only reach the low-30s. Clouds will stick around through most of the day, with a few rogue flurries possible through the afternoon.

Another system moves through overnight

Thursday evening will start to see our next system emerging from the west. By 10 pm, snow will be widespread. Past midnight, snow begins to retreat to the north, meaning that those along and north of I-64 will see the most snowfall and therefore the highest possibility for impacts.

Expect roads to be slick for the Friday morning commute. This is especially true for side roads, overpasses, and bridges. Be sure to salt your driveway and sidewalks beforehand.

By Friday afternoon, winds shift out of the south and temperatures warm to the upper-30s. This means snow will likely begin to melt, and the evening commute will not be affected much.

The weekend stays active

Saturday morning and the early afternoon look calm, but chilly in the low 30s. By the evening, our next system may begin to approach the Blugrass. This looks to bring snow across the Bluegrass overnight. Sunday morning could see travel impacts. This system will also bring another winter element: frigid, arctic air. Temperatures on Sunday will struggle to reach the 20s, and wind chills will likely be in the teens.

Monday morning holds onto the cold air, with morning temperatures possibly in the low teens.
