Senate bill promotes safe disposal of prescription drugs
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Senate passes a measure Wednesday in an attempt to curb the state’s opioid epidemic.
Senate Bill 6 would require pharmacists to offer to sell or distribute a drug disposal product with certain prescriptions.
The prescriptions that would require the drug disposal product are ones containing an opiate, benzodiazepine, barbiturate, codeine or amphetamine.
The bill would also require pharmacists to consult with patients on the importance of proper drug disposal for unused, expired, or unwanted prescription drugs.
Senate Bill 6 passed by a 34-2 vote.
It now goes to the House for further consideration.
