Secretary Grimes statement on election security

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky’s chief election official and chair of the State Board of Elections, on Thursday received from CyberScout, a cybersecurity firm, a report on the Commonwealth’s elections.

The State Board of Elections engaged CyberScout last year to provide a security audit of Kentucky’s election infrastructure and technical expertise as the Board worked to rollout e-poll books.

Secretary Grimes released the following statement:

“Over the last two years, the Commonwealth has faced head-on the threats to all of our nation’s elections from bad actors seeking to disrupt and sow distrust in the process. Our work has included joining with election integrity partners like the Department of Homeland Security to train local election officials on cybersecurity, enhancing our security protocols and practices, and the State Board of Elections employing CyberScout, a first-class cybersecurity firm, to audit our elections and provide technical expertise.

“As Kentucky’s chief election official, I am thankful for the many hours CyberScout provided on the ground learning about Kentucky’s elections infrastructure and providing critical guidance and recommendations. We learned in this process that while Kentucky does many things well, we do have improvements to make – and have implemented many recommendations already. I look forward to working with our Board and local election officials to continue to strengthen our elections and ensure every Kentuckian has confidence in the process.”
