Scott County man dies days after being shot

SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Charges are expected to be upgraded against a Scott County teenager after his grandfather dies.

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office says 79-year-old Richard Barkley died Thursday afternoon at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

According to deputies, Barkley was shot on July 31 by his 16-year-old grandson.

The teenager is also accused of assaulting his grandmother, 80-year-old Elois Barkley, and shooting a dog.

He was charged with assault and animal cruelty, but the sheriff says those charges will be upgraded.

The juvenile’s name isn’t being released.
