School, vehicles, and other property vandalized overnight
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Students and property owners were in for a surprise Wednesday morning in one Lexington neighborhood as they awoke to widespread vandalism.
Fayette County Public Schools says it was around 5 a.m. when administrators got a call about spray-paint covering the front windows of Squires Elementary School. School officials say a custodian was able to make quick work of cleaning that up but other tags were still visible in the parking lot, on a school sign, and on a new marquee at the entrance of Squires.
Nearby, on Hunting Hill Drive, neighbors awoke to similar scenes of paint scrawled out to make up the words “Gang” and “Blood”, along with crude depictions of male genitalia.
Amelia Dix was asleep while the vandalism was going on. She left her home this morning to find her SUV, covered in red paint.
“It’s sad how little respect people can have for stuff you work really hard to pay for. I do payments on this car, it’s still not paid off and it’s just sad that people find that entertaining,” she says.
Fortunately for Dix, a little soap and warm water removed the paint.
For the most part, neighbors aren’t concerned about a serious threat and Lexington Police say there were juveniles involved. No word yet if there will be charges.
