School program takes aim at kindergarten readiness

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) -Workshops are being held on four Lexington school campuses, focusing on early childhood learning.  The “United Way Born Learning Academy” aims to improve kindergarten readiness for Kentucky children.

Designed to support parents in their role as a child’s first teacher, the United Way Born Learning Academy is a series of parent workshops that provide early learning tools and practices for parents and caregivers of children under age 5, as well as expectant parents.

The workshops are free and include a meal for participating families. Workshops will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the following locations and dates:

  • Arlington and Booker T Washington Elementaries: Sept. 17, Oct. 8 and 22, Nov. 5 and 19
  • Mary Todd Elementary: Sept. 14 and 28, Oct. 12 and 26, Nov. 9 and 23
  • William Wells Brown Elementary: Sept. 17, Oct. 8 and 22, Nov. 5 and 19, Dec. 3
