School district hosts Bullying and Suicide Prevention Summit

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Jefferson County Public Schools is holding the district’s first Bullying and Suicide Prevention Summit.

The district says in a statement that Thursday’s summit is an effort to create a dialogue on issues that teenagers face and develop strategies that will support them.

Superintendent Marty Pollio announced the summit last month as a way to expand awareness about the increase in teen suicide and provide additional training for administrators and educators. Superintendents from around the state have been invited to attend.

The event will include a panel discussion featuring Pollio and Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Manny Caulk. Other featured speakers include Malcolm Smith and Kevin Briggs. Smith is a national authority on bullying and peer victimization. Briggs is an international speaker on crisis management, suicide prevention and leadership skills.
