School day snow days successful in Jessamine County

JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Students and teachers returned to school in Jessamine County Tuesday morning after a six day break from the classroom but none of those days will have to be made up.

A pilot program the district is participating in allows for non-traditional instruction days. Teachers assign work either electronically or before the snow day for students to complete while at home.

Jessamine County is one of 13 counties throughout the state testing out the program.

School leaders say students are getting more learning done at home on snow days than they would during make-up days stretching into summer vacation. School leaders also say it is important to continue instruction instead of having a long break due to weather.
