Scholarship tax credit bill dead this session

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – As the legislative session comes to a close, teachers were back, protesting two education bills.

House bill 205, a scholarship tax credit bill, would give tax breaks to people who donate to non profits that give scholarships to low income, special needs and foster children to attend private school.

Majority Floor Leader John “Bam” Carney says there isn’t enough support to pass the bill.

“That’s an issue where I’m going to operate from a very safe judiciary perspective, at least where it needs 60 votes and that’s problematic this session, the 60 votes, so scholarship tax credits is effectively done with this session,” said Representative Carney.
