SCAM: Asking for credit card, pretending to be deputy

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Scott County Sheriff says a scammer has been calling residents, identifying themselves as Scott Franklin & Association. Police say they have manipulated the caller ID to show up as Scott Co. Sheriff’s Office (502-863-7855). The scammers are using actual deputy names, as well.

The scammer tells people that they have unpaid tickets or fines, says the sheriff, and ask for a credit card number to settle the fee so the person won’t be arrested or prosecuted.

One person has already fallen for this, officials say, and three other people reported getting the call.

The Sheriff’s office says that they do not call people about warrants, arrests, and will never ask for money over the phone. From online reports, they say this is happening in other counties as well.
