SCAM ALERT: Sheriff’s Office warns of Microsoft scam
VERSAILLES, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Woodford Co. Sheriff is warning of a new phone scam being reported in the area.
The Sheriff says he’s received complaints of scammers calling people, claiming to be from Microsoft, and requesting access to computers to perform updates. If that access is given, the Sheriff says the scammer will lock the user out of their own computer, and demand money to give control back to the user. Once that money is paid, the Sheriff says the scammer will demand even more money.
According to the Sheriff’s office, Microsoft will never call to do updates. If you receive a call and are unsure if you are being scammed, hand up on the caller, and call the company directly.
