SCAM ALERT: Fraudulent phone calls in Knox Co.

HARLAN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police in Knox Co. are warning residents of a phone scam that’s going around the area.

Officers say someone will call saying he is a Deputy with the Knox Co. Sheriff’s Office, and that the recipient of the call has been fined for missed jury duty. The man will then try to get a caller to give over their credit card information in order to pay the bogus fine.

Troopers are advising everyone that this is a scam and urge residents to not give out personal information or credit card numbers over the phone.

You can contact the Knox County Circuit Clerks Office about Grand Jury Duty.
