Salvation Army Food Pantry Running Low

One in every five Kentuckians do not know where their next meal is coming from.

For many a trip to a local food pantry is the only thing keeping them and their families from going hungry.

Those trips may be fewer for some lately, especially for those relying on the Salvation Army food banks in Lexington and Georgetown.

The Salvation Army says those food banks are running seriously low on food and need donations.

They say during the Summer and early Fall, there are not as many donations coming in. They believe with summer lunch programs for kids and parents having to spend money on back to school items, more families turn to food banks this time of year.

Most food banks receive a majority of their donations during the holiday season, and have to make those donations last through most of the year.
