Salt Shortages Impacting Multiple Counties
Deputy Judge-Executive Jerry Alderman since Sunday, between 75 and 80 tons of salt have been used to treat the roadways in Rowan County, and only 10 tons were left as of Thursday morning.
But, Alderman said the county was able to get an additional 80 tons from the state, and over 300 tons of salt have been ordered for the area.
He said until the new salt arrives, hills, curves and bridges are being treated, but the county is doing what it can to conserve.
Things seem to be even worse for Menifee County, as they reportedly had to borrow salt from another county.
According to State Highway crews, 1,500 tons of salt have been used across the Commonwealth since Sunday, and 12,000 tons of primary salt remain.
However, salt shipments are still arriving, and there is a statewide reserve supply.
