Lynn Issac, the factory manager for Ruth Hunt Candies, talked us through the origin of the store’s classic “Blue Monday.” She said that one evening in the 1930s a traveling minister that preached at Ruth Hunt’s church was having dinner with Ruth. The minister said that after preaching on Sunday, Monday was the “blue” day of the week, and he always needed a small sweet to cheer him up. She had just developed this specific candy bar, and she settled on the name “Blue Monday Sweet Bar” in honor of him.

Bourbon balls are a best seller at Ruth Hunt Candies. In 2017, the candy producer made approximately $3.5 million bourbon balls; they estimate closer to 4 million this year. The ingredients will make your mouth water: sugar, powdered sugar, cream, butter, Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon and special pecans. Mhmm!
