Rock climbers heading to Red River Gorge for competition
SLADE, Ky. (AP) – Rock climbers from around the world will be in Kentucky’s Red River Gorge for an annual event and competition.
The event is called Rocktoberfest and features climbing competitions, instruction, films and music. It’s a fundraiser for the Red River Gorge Climbers’ Coalition.
The area inside the Daniel Boone National Forest is a popular destination for climbers because of the exposed rock faces and natural climbing routes.
Rocktoberfest will be held Oct. 9 to 11. Headquarters will be located near the rest area at Exit 33 off the Mountain Parkway at Slade.
