Road crews preparing for snow

MOREHEAD, Ky. (WTVQ)- Road crews are filling up brine tanks in preparation for expected snow.

Crews will pre-treat all northeast county highways Thursday and Friday.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says drivers should watch for slow-moving spray trucks on highways. They say to sue caution and avoid following too closely.

KYTC says pretreating travel lanes with brine, or saltwater, leaves lines of salt crystals on the roadway surface that mix with snow to prevent it from bonding with the pavement. Brine can help plow crews more easily remove snow from roads during the first hours of a winter storm.

Crews are also prepping plow and salt trucks for duty, and are ready to work 12-hour shifts as needed to keep roads clear in the coming days.
