Richmond Police Warn Of Phone Scam
Richmond Police are warning citizens of a phone scam similar to one reported in Lexington where people are told to pay a fine for missing jury duty or face arrest.
Richmond Police said a woman received a call on August 17th from someone claiming to be a Lieutenant with the Lexington Police Department.
The caller told the woman that she had missed jury duty and that a warrant had been issued for her arrest.
The caller advised that it would be necessary for the woman to obtain a $450 Green Dot card and bring it to court with her.
The caller then directed the woman to get the card within the hour and to provide her cell phone number so he could stay in touch with her while she was getting the card.
The woman became suspicious and called police.
This is a scam. Don’t fall for it.
