Richmond police cooling off while reaching out

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Richmond Police Department hosted something kind of like a pool party Saturday.

They invited community members to “Dunk a cop”.

It kicked off the police department’s partnership with Big Sisters and Big Brothers of the Bluegrass.

Community member Connie Arthur said, “”I think it is the best thing that could ever happen, because most people don’t see police or any kind of law enforcement as normal people. And they are, they have families they have kids they are just like us. They go to the store, they go to the park.”

The police department says its new mentoring program with Big Brothers and Big Sisters called Bigs in Blue.

It’ll connect kids with police in communities all over the country as a way to build stronger bonds between law enforcement and the families they serve.
