Richmond man accused of stealing truck, running from police
HINDMAN, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police say a Richmond man was under the influence when he stole a pickup truck and led authorities on a chase that ended in a crash and eventual arrest.
Investigators say 27-year old Jarod Stokely, of Richmond, stole a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck from the parking lot of a Double Kwik on Highway 80 in Knott County around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday.
State Police say Stokely was spotted driving the stolen pickup on Highway 80, but refused to stop for authorities, eventually turning around near the Knott-Perry County line.
The pursuit continued into Floyd County where investigators say Stokely turned around again and drove back into Knott County.
State Police say when Stokely tried to turn around a third time, Troopers surrounded the pickup. Investigators say Stokely collided with two of the KSP cruisers before being forced into a ditch at which time he got out of the truck and took off running. State Police say he was caught after a brief chase.
He was lodged in the Kentucky River Regional Jail in Hazard facing a number of charges, including DUI, theft, assault and fleeing and evading.
State Police say Stokely is also wanted for offenses in Fayette County and Alabama.
The case remains under investigation.
