Remaining muggy Wednesday ahead of a hot end to the week

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Wednesday! It’s another muggy start to the day out there this morning. We are still waiting for Lexington to officially drop below 75, which we haven’t done since Sunday morning. Outside of the humidity, the first thing you’ll notice when you head outside this morning will be the cloud cover. Mostly-to-partly cloudy skies can be anticipated throughout the day. This will limit our afternoon temperatures with many areas reaching the upper 80s as opposed to the low 90s. It will still be feeling muggy out there so remember to stay hydrated.

Temperatures will be on the climb later this week. The ridge of high pressure that’s been centered over the Mid-Atlantic will start to build further towards the south and west. This will be bumping up our temperatures into the mid-90s Friday and Saturday. A few spots could push the upper 90s if skies remain clear enough. It will remain humid as well. The heat index will be reaching the upper 90s on Thursday, while pushing the low 100s Friday and Saturday. We should make a run at our daily record highs on Friday and possibly Saturday as well. Overnight lows will be warm as well, only falling into the low-to-mid 70s.

We are still expecting some brief relief from the heat by the end of the weekend. Sunday into Monday will feature a round of isolated-to-scattered showers and thunderstorms. This will help limit our temperatures a bit, but it won’t last long. We are expected to return to the low-to-mid 90s by the middle of next week. The timing and coverage area of the rain chances is still up in the air. Many areas will be needing rain after the extended dry stretch this week.
