The Nest still needs toys, coats for ‘Reindeer Express’
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Toys and coats are still needed for an annual fundraiser to help families and children in need this holiday season. The Nest is putting on its annual Reindeer Express, thanks to help from community volunteer ‘elves’.
The Nest provides a safe place for education, counseling, and support to children and families in crisis. Its programs focus on the prevention of physical and sexual abuse, neglect of children, and the stabilization of the family unit.
Each year, the Reindeer Express giveaway allows parents to “shop” for their kids but due to the pandemic, the usual in-person event will look different this year to ensure each family still gets their bag of goodies.
“We plan to use volunteers to sort and organize donations of toys, coats, books, and more, and then we will put together large bags of gifts for each family to pick up at our drive-thru event on Friday, December 11 at Crestwood Christian Church,” administrators said.
Organizers say they are still in need of new, unwrapped toys for kids ages 0-5 including dolls, trucks, books, puzzles, sports items, and arts and crafts. They are also in need of new cold weather clothing for kids 0-5 including new winter coats, hats and gloves.
Donations can be dropped off at Crestwood Christian Church located at 1882 Bellefonte Drive, Monday-Friday from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M.
While volunteer spots have already been filled to help sort the donations, there are still plenty of items needed on two wish lists. You can view the Amazon wish list, HERE. Walmart’s wish list is available, HERE.
