Recycling facility fire still under investigation
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Crews are still investigating what started a large fire at a recycling facility near downtown Lexington.
Firefighters were called to Premiere Recycling around one Thursday morning.
While working the fire, part of the building collapsed making it unstable and unsafe for crews to be inside.
ABC 36 is told there were no injuries.
Firefighters say a lot of materials including plastics and propane gas tanks were in the warehouse. Firefighters say those help to fuel the fire.
Crews spent much of Thursday putting out hot spots around the building.
The building owner says Premiere Recycling has only been there about 18-months. He says no recycling was done at the building instead he says Premiere Recycling would collect and organize the materials then send them other places to be processed.
Code Enforcement says that property has been under notice several times in the past couple years for trash and debris but nothing that it believes would cause a fire.
