UK grad in London during terrorist attacks
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- People from all across the world were in London at the time of the attacks including some from here in Kentucky.
ABC 36 spoke with Kentucky native Ally Barnett over the phone.
She’s been travelling through Europe with her family for the past two weeks and says both the Manchester bombing and the London attacks have had a huge impact on their trip.
After graduating from UK last month Barnett and her family went on a celebratory trip through Europe.
“It’s my mom and I, my grandmother and my sister in law,” said Barnett.
Barnett and her family were in Greece at the time of the Manchester bombing but traveled to London just days after.
“Just the feeling there was very intense. Everybody was on high alert for sure,” said Barnett.
Barnett and her family then traveled to Amsterdam, where Barnett says she was out with friends who were planning on going back to London on Sunday when they heard the news of the attacks.
“So they were all freaking out. They were like are we going to go back there. Are we going to, like everybody was in a mass freak out of what to do now,” said Barnett.
While both the bombing and Saturday’s attacks had a big impact on Barnett’s trip, she says she’s still glad they decided to go.
“I would not change this experience that I’ve had with my family for anything. It’s been a really really good experience to see the different cultures,” said Barnett.
Barnett says her friends did end up going back to London and she and her family will be flying back to Kentucky from Amsterdam in the next few days.
As for UK students in London right now, the university says all are safe and accounted for.
