Reading, writing and renovations at Wallins Elementary School

HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A day many have been waiting for finally arrived on Tuesday, the ribbon cutting and official grand opening of the newly renovated Wallins Elementary School in Harlan County.

The school has a rich history in the community.  It first opened in 1945 where generations of families have been educated.

The multi-million dollar renovation has been underway for more than a year.

There’s a new office suite, guidance counselor’s office, nurse’s office, family resource and youth service center along with new classrooms.

A new electrical grid was installed, technology upgrades, climate control and safety features.
