Rainy start to Keeneland’s historic Fall Meet

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A rainy start to Keeneland’s Fall Meet on Friday but it didn’t stop people from coming out to watch the race.

Friday kicks off what Keeneland is calling a historic month which ends with Breeder’s Cup on October 30th and 31st.

“This fall that began with the September Yearling Sale, now we’re in the race meet. We’ll have a big November Sale just after Breeder’s Cup,” said Amy Gregory with Keeneland. “It’s really sort of our Super Bowl and so we’ve been planning for more than a year for this fall.”

Leading up to Breeder’s Cup, there’s still plenty of excitement at Fall Meet.

The Fall Meet features 16 stakes races worth more than five million dollars in purse money. The Falls Stars Weekend has seven “Win and You’re In” races, where the winner earns an automatic berth into Breeders’ Cup.
