Rainy and windy for the start of Thanksgiving travels

Tuesday – Wednesday

Tuesday will see widespread morning rain showers. Rain chances will become more scattered to isolated through the afternoon. This is due to a series of fronts that are moving through. A warm front is bringing us mild temperatures in the mid-60s for Tuesday afternoon. Winds will gust up to 30 mph through the afternoon. Overnight, rain chances will linger as a cold front moves through. Wednesday morning, those to the SE may see some patchy drizzle. Those to the NW will see clear skies. Everyone will experience gusty winds throughout the day as temperatures drop to near-average levels, but will feel a bit colder due to the wind.

Thanksgiving – Black Friday

By Thursday morning, high pressure will be building into the area. Cold arctic air will seep down into the Bluegrass, making for a chilly start to the holiday. Anyone heading out for a Turkey Trot will want to wear proper layers. By the afternoon, temperatures will only be in the upper 30s. Gusty conditions will continue, bringing wind chill values down into the 20s. This continues into Friday, where morning temperatures will be in the teens and 20s. Early Black Friday shoppers will want to bundle up.

Weekend Outlook

Forecast trends are continuing to show a system moving through the region this coming weekend. The path of this system will play a big role in what we see. This system may track far to our north, and we would see some rain showers. However, if the system moves directly over Kentucky, we may see a few flurries mixed in. This is still very unclear, and no forecast can be made with any degree of certainty. The thing to keep in mind is that we may see minor travel impacts this weekend. We will continue to track this system as the weekend gets closer.
