Rain and storm chances to start the week ahead of drier weather for the Fourth of July
Scattered rain and storms around to start the week
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – After several days of muggy, unsettled weather, central and eastern Kentucky will continue to deal with scattered showers and storms to kick off the new workweek. The good news? Some much-needed relief from the humidity is just around the corner.
Storm Chances Continue Into Tuesday
Your Monday will feature scattered showers and storms, especially during the afternoon and early evening hours. Not everyone will see rain, but localized downpours, lightning, and gusty winds will be possible where storms develop. There may also be some isolated morning showers or rumbles of thunder as a weak disturbance tracks through the region.
By Monday night, storm chances continue but become more isolated. Most areas will remain muggy with overnight lows in the low 70s.
On Tuesday, a cold front will slowly approach the region. Ahead of this boundary, we’ll hold on to some rain and storm chances, especially across southeastern Kentucky. Temperatures will trend cooler, with highs in the low-to-mid 80s, but it will still feel sticky through the afternoon.
Relief From the Humidity Arrives Wednesday
Behind the front, much drier air moves in. You’ll notice the difference by Wednesday morning with low temperatures dipping into the low-to-mid 60s and dew points dropping into the more comfortable-to-noticeable range. This will feel much more refreshing compared to the sweltering humidity we’ve experienced recently.
Plenty of sunshine and comfortable conditions are expected for both Wednesday and Thursday, with afternoon highs in the mid-to-upper 80s and much lower humidity. This dry stretch continues just in time for your 4th of July holiday.
Looking Ahead to the Holiday and Weekend
The 4th of July forecast looks fantastic, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 80s to near 90°. Dew points will start to slowly climb again, but overall it will still be a great day for fireworks, cookouts, and outdoor plans.
By the weekend, heat and humidity return, with highs pushing back into the low 90s. We’ll stay mainly dry through most of the weekend, but rain and storm chances could return by late Sunday and into early next week.
