Rain from Francine brings beneficial rain for some on Friday

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Friday! Rain associated with the remnants of ‘Francine’ bringing beneficial rain for some on your Friday. Central Kentucky the big winner rain-wise, accumulating well over an inch from early morning rain in portions of Boyle, Casey, and Lincoln counties. The band of rain that moved into the area early Friday, will slowly be dissipating throughout the day as it battles with dry air to the north and east. This drier air will be keeping most areas north and east of Lexington mainly dry not only on Friday but for the rest of the weekend.

After the main band of rain dissipated, there will still be more pop-up showers and a few storms developing during the afternoon before dissipating throughout the evening. These showers and storms will be isolated, but there is still the possibility of a few impacts for high school football games this evening.

We do expect to dry out late tonight and into early Saturday. Overall, the Saturday forecast has improved. Isolated showers and storms will still be possible during the afternoon and early evening. It won’t be a washout and because of less coverage area of the rain, you can expect warmer temperatures. Afternoon should climb into the low-to-mid 80s for most areas.

Heading to Kroger Field for Kentucky and Georgia? Tailgating during the afternoon may feature an isolated shower or storm, but you can expect the rain chance to diminish as the evening progresses. Our current forecast has a 20%, isolated chance, at kickoff before dropping throughout the game. Temperatures will be warm during the tailgate, possibly peaking near the upper 80s if we stay dry. You can expect temperatures to fall into the 70s during the game as day turns to night.

We are keeping an isolated rain chance out for Sunday into Monday, though both days should stay mainly dry. Southern Kentucky may sneak a shower or two in both days as there will still be some lingering moisture from the remnants of Francine. Temperatures will be warm on Sunday once again, hitting the mid-80s across most of the area.

Next week’s forecast is dependent on what happens to our east. Models have been picking up on a low forming of the coast of the Carolinas that could throw some moisture our way by the middle of next week. The exact extent of the rain is still very much uncertain. Models are all over the place at this time. Just keep your eye out for some added rain chances out east by the middle of next week. If this moisture stays to our east, next week could stay mainly dry for most of the area.
