LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Oaks Day! Unfortunately, after a beautiful last two days rain returns to the forecast today. Scattered to widespread to showers and storms will be moving in throughout your Friday morning hours. The chance of storms and isolated heavier downpours will increase this afternoon into the early evening.
Heading to Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Oaks? You’ll need the rain gear for most of the day. The good news is that the rain chances will be dropping at the track just in time for the Oaks post time at 5:51 PM.
If you have any late Friday evening plans, there will still be a low rain chance but showers and storms will decrease as the evening progresses.
Kentucky Derby Saturday will start mainly dry and mild with temperatures in the upper 50s and low 60s. Rain chances will gradually increase as the day progresses and there is some daytime heating. It won’t be a washout by any means with periods of dry time anticipated in between showers and storms. Storms that do fire up on Saturday will be slow movers as well.
Heading to the Kentucky Derby on Saturday? Another day you’ll need some rain gear as well. Don’t expect a soaking rain early in the day like on Friday. The main concern will be one of the slow moving showers and storms that fire up to sit right over the track. That will be possible but remember the showers and storms that develop will be isolated-to-scattered.
We are tracking active weather likely to last through next week. We have daily rain chances, with temperatures climbing into the upper 70s and low 80s. Heavier rain and stronger storms will be possible later in the week. Wednesday to Friday will be monitored for localized flooding threat and strong-to-severe storm threat.
