Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast
Happy Friday! The mild start to the month of February continues to close out the week. Afternoon highs on Friday will return to the low-to-mid 60s, nearly 20 degrees above average. Rain chances will ramp up for some starting during the daytime on Friday, before widespread rain arrives overnight Friday into Saturday morning. The best chance of rain on Friday during the day will be in southern and southeastern Kentucky. Areas north and east of Lexington have a lower chance of seeing any rain.
A round of heavier showers and a few storms will move in overnight Friday in Saturday morning. Most areas can expect rain during this time, with intermittent heavy downpours possible. There is a low-end threat of a few strong storms in south-central Kentucky as well. Most of the region will wake up Saturday to wet roads with showers & storms beginning to exit the region. Expect a drier afternoon on Saturday after the wet start. Temperatures will make on last push into the 60s Saturday afternoon before yet another round of showers moves in Saturday night.
Another round of widespread showers will move in Saturday night and last through the morning hours on Sunday. After this round of rain, rainfall totals will be approaching 1-2 inches in southern Kentucky, with lesser amounts the further north into Kentucky that you go. Temps take a bit of a hit on Sunday with afternoon highs struggling to reach the upper 40s and low 50s. This sets the stage for another system to sweep through the region Monday into Tuesday.
An area of low pressure will sweep through the region Monday during the daytime. This will bring yet another round of rain and a few storms across the region. This system will also pull in colder air on the backside of the area of low pressure. This leads to a possible change over from rain to a rain-snow mix or just snowflakes by Tuesday morning. Temperatures next week will likely stay in the 40s, with the coldest air likely on Tuesday with afternoon highs reaching the low-to-mid 40s.
