Rain and storms return on Friday

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Friday! Hope you were able to enjoy the beautiful conditions on Thursday because rain and storms return to the forecast on Friday. You can expect light rain to move in during the morning hours. Things will pick up a little bit in intensity during the midday and afternoon hours. There is a “Marginal Risk” of flash flooding today, with isolated instances of flash flooding possible in low-lying and flood prone areas. Scattered showers and few storms continue overnight into the morning hours of Saturday.

Saturday’s forecast has improved a bit. You can still expected scattered showers and thunderstorms but it’s less likely we will see widespread rain. Our Futurecast is suggesting there could be some heavier rain into southern and southeastern Kentucky, but that is not supported by other weather models. You can expect isolated-to-widely scattered showers and storms to fire up Saturday afternoon and early evening. There is the low chance we could see more persistent showers and thunderstorms developing in our far southern and southeastern Kentucky.

By Sunday, this system will continue to weak and move towards the south and east. Isolated showers and a few storms will be possible during the afternoon and early evening south and east of Lexington.

We are expecting a mainly dry and warm start to next week. Temperatures will be climbing into the low-to-mid 80s. Storm chances increase Wednesday into Thursday of next week.

Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.
