Rain and storms return as we close out the workweek
Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Friday! Unfortunately, after a beautiful week, rain and storms have returned just in time for the weekend. Rain and storms are likely during the first half of your day on Friday, before becoming more isolated late day. There is a Level 1 Severe Risk for most of the ABC 36 viewing area. The main threat will be isolated damaging wind gusts, while localized flooding concerns will be possible within the heaviest downpours. Temperatures will remain warm into the mid-to-upper 80s, with muggy conditions expected. We remain muggy overnight with some storms around, particularly early.
Saturday will likely start on the drier end, but storm chances will increase during the late afternoon and evening hours. All of the ABC 36 viewing area once again has a Level 1 Severe Risk due to the isolated damaging wind gust threat. Before the storms move in, it’s going to be hot and steamy. Afternoon highs may break into the 90s, just depending on the timing of the rain and storms.
The storms will exit eastward overnight as a cold front sweeps through the region. This will drop our temperatures on Sunday into the upper 70s, maybe low 80s for some. There will be lingering showers on Sunday as well. Though it won’t be raining all day, expect some off and on showers to continue. This may stick around into Monday as well, especially in eastern Kentucky.
The big headline heading into next week is the temperature drop! We return to a “Fall-like” feel like we experienced last weekend. Afternoon highs on Monday and Tuesday will struggle to reach the upper 70s in most areas. Overnight lows will be dropping into 50s as well, possibly making a run at the upper 40s even in isolated eastern Kentucky valleys.
This cooler stint will last through the middle of the week before we like warm-up once again by next weekend.
Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.
