Rain and a few strong-to-severe storms arrive Tuesday
Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your ABC 36 Storm Team forecast
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Tuesday everyone! A few light rain showers moved through overnight but most of the region is dry early in the day on Tuesday. That will change by the midday and afternoon and rain and storm chances increase. The first wave of rain and storms will be moving into the I-75 corridor by lunchtime. This likely won’t pose much of a severe weather threat. More scattered-to-widespread showers and thunderstorms will be likely during the afternoon through the evening. There is an isolated severe weather risk during this timeframe. Damaging wind gusts, large hail and even a brief spin-up tornado will be possible. This won’t be a widespread threat, just don’t be caught off guard by any warnings that could be issued later today. Heavy rain will be possible at times, leading to a localized minor flood threat in low-lying and flood prone areas. Be alert for rising creeks and streams in these areas.
Rain chances continue overnight into your day on Wednesday. We will lose the severe threat, but a few storms and scattered showers will be in the forecast. Two day rainfall totals will be approaching one inch total for most, with isolated areas experiencing upwards of two inches of rain possible.
We are expecting a break from the rain on Thursday! Enjoy that break because unsettled weather will return heading into Friday and that pattern will last into the weekend. Rainfall totals over the next week could be approaching 2-3 inches in spots. This unsettled weather will continue into next week as well.
