LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Monday! It’s a cold and crisp start to your Monday across the Bluegrass with early morning temperatures ranging from the low to mid-20s. A stalled cold front in southern Kentucky brought a few flurries overnight, but those didn’t amount to much. As we head into the day, skies will clear, leading to a seasonably cool but sunny afternoon. Highs will climb to around 40-43° in central Kentucky, with slightly milder temperatures reaching the mid-40s in southern Kentucky. Winds will pick up this afternoon, with gusts reaching up to 25 mph.

Tonight, expect breezy conditions to persist, with overnight lows staying slightly milder than this morning, dipping into the upper 20s to low 30s. The clear skies and continued southwest flow will set the stage for a warming trend as we move into the midweek.

Midweek Outlook
On Tuesday, high pressure will remain in control, bringing abundant sunshine and allowing highs to rise into the mid-to-upper 40s. A weak front will pass to our northeast on Wednesday, increasing winds once again but keeping conditions dry. Highs on Wednesday will push into the upper 40s to near 50°, with gusts up to 30 mph possible during the afternoon.

Late Week System to Watch
Attention then turns to a developing system set to impact the region late Thursday into Friday. Moisture will stream in from the Gulf, bringing widespread rain to the area. Rain is expected to begin Thursday evening and intensify overnight into early Friday. Current projections suggest rainfall amounts of 1-2 inches across central Kentucky, with localized totals exceeding 2 inches possible in south-central and western parts of the state. The heaviest rain will occur during the overnight hours Thursday into Friday morning, which could cause localized flooding in low-lying areas.

Despite heavy rainfall, temperatures will remain above freezing throughout the event, with no wintry weather expected. Highs on Friday will reach the low 50s before cooler air moves in behind the system, dropping temperatures back into the 40s on Saturday.

Weekend Preview
Rain will taper off Saturday as the system exits, leaving us with drier and cooler conditions. Highs on Saturday will stay in the mid-40s, but we’ll rebound quickly, with temperatures climbing back into the 50s by Sunday under mostly sunny skies.
