Quarter horse racing at Red Mile

Lexington, Ky. (WTVQ) — At Red Mile, Sandy Ridge hosted the second quarter horse racing event in Kentucky.

With over 60 horses competing in eight races, viewers had a lot to see.

They had horses from a dozen states, spanning from New Mexico and Oklahoma all the way to North Carolina.

Before each race, people could go to the paddock and get a look at the horses and decide which one they wanted to bet on.

Officials with the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission and Revolutionary Racing Kentucky spoke about how excited they are for the races.

“It’s amazing to bring quarter horse racing back in a serious way to Kentucky has been unbelievable,” said Connor Lucas, Vice President of Government Relations at Revolutionary Racing Kentucky. “Like chairman Rabinowitz said we have over $1 million of purse money over the course of the six days we’re racing. Double the entries we had last year, which was our first race meet in the state of Kentucky, so this has just been a dream come true.”

“We’re really excited,” said Chairman of Kentucky Horse Racing Commission Jon Rabinowiz. “A few more races ahead of us in five more days, this week and next week. So hopefully the crowd stays busy as they are.”

For everyone who comes out to see the races, officials warn people to not blink, because the races are fast, as the horses are not running the full track.
