UPDATE: Former shift manager accused in April fire at Qdoba restaurant

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – New details are emerging on a fire at the Qdoba Mexican Grill on East Tiverton Way in Lexington back on April 25th.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports they have obtained court documents that say 20-year-old Bennie Davis is accused of setting the fire.

Davis is a former shift manager at the restaurant.

The newspaper says he denies setting the fire and stealing money from the safe, however, the paper also says Davis’ roommate told investigators that Davis had confessed to both.

Qdoba on Tiverton Way catches fire

The Qdoba restaurant on Tiverton Way in Lexington caught fire early Tuesday morning.

The Lexington Fire Department said a passerby noticed smoke pouring from the restaurant and called it in.

Firefighters said the fire was primarily in the kitchen area. They believe that is where it started.

The building had heavy smoke and fire damage.

The restaurant closed at 10 p.m. so there was no one inside at the time of the fire.

Investigators will be on the scene Tuesday to try and determine the cause of the fire.
