Pushing the low 70s Wednesday ahead of showers & a few storms Thursday

A few isolated showers possible Wednesday with a better chance on Thursday

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – It’s another cool start across central and eastern Kentucky this Wednesday morning, but we’ve got some modest warming ahead as we head into the afternoon. Sunshine early will give way to increasing clouds through the day, but overall, it should stay dry for most spots.

Temperatures will climb nicely this afternoon, topping out in the low 70s across the region. A few isolated showers may try to sneak in—mainly closer to the Tennessee border—but the vast majority of the area will remain dry through the day. Cloud cover will continue to thicken overnight into Thursday ahead of our next storm system.

Stormy Thursday Ahead

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will return on Thursday, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. The Storm Prediction Center has placed southern and southeastern Kentucky in a Level 1 out of 5 risk (Marginal Risk) for severe weather. The primary threats will be isolated damaging wind gusts and hail, though widespread severe weather is not expected.

Rainfall totals by Thursday night will generally range from a quarter to half an inch, with locally higher amounts possible in any thunderstorms. Behind this system, a cold front will sweep through, bringing in cooler and drier air for the end of the week.

Cooler Again Friday and Into the Weekend

Friday will feel noticeably cooler with highs only in the mid-to-upper 60s across the region. That cool air will stick around into Friday night, with lows dipping well down into the 40s by Saturday morningchilly for early May standards.

The weekend forecast continues to look mainly dry, though there is still some uncertainty thanks to a stalled upper-level low over the Deep South. Right now, models suggest this feature won’t start to influence our weather until Monday, so for now, we’re keeping Mother’s Day dry with just a small chance for a stray shower. That said, it’s a tricky setup, so be sure to check back for updates in the days ahead.
