Pulaski sheriff: Elderly man likely drowned in Lake Cumberland

PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Pulaski County sheriff says an elderly man likely drowned in Lake Cumberland.

Deputies say the body of 88-year-old Eugene H. Jones was pulled from the water around 6:15 p.m. According to the sheriff, neighbors last saw Jones around noon Wednesday at his home on Eckstein Street in Somerset. Authorities say he didn’t return to his house later that evening.

According to investigators, neighbors later found Jones’ pickup at the end of Richardson Lane. The sheriff says a Somerset police bloodhound tracking dog was brought in to help find him. And investigators say the Pulaski County Rescue Squad Dive Team was later called in to search an area of Lake Cumberland.

The sheriff says after Jones’ body was found, it was turned over to the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office. At the time of this writing, the cause of death has not been determined. But investigators say they do not suspect foul play.
