Public invited to see new Catholic Action Center building April 23rd

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Catholic Action Center is inviting members of the community to visit their new facility for an open house prior to its opening for services to the homeless on April 28.

The new facility is located at 1055 Industry Road in Lexington, and will be open for a preview from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 23rd.

Ginny Ramsey, co-director of the new center, says, ““We want the opportunity to let everyone see the beauty, dignity and safe space that has been created for our brothers and sisters in Lexington who are experiencing homelessness.”

The new center will operate as a 24-hour shelter, and “…allows an increase in on-site services, more opportunities for our community to connect and build relationships with our citizens on the street, and a path from the street to a home. One location affords our guests more dignity, opportunity and safety,” Ramsey said.

Charlie Lanter, former Director of the city’s Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention, said, “We are working alongside Ginny and her organization to provide access to permanent housing opportunities for people residing in the facility to reduce their stay in the shelter and end their homelessness.”

Organizers are encouraging visitors to bring a “housewarming” gift to the center, and are suggesting twin blankets, twin fitted sheets, pillow cases, towels, or washcloths.
