Prosecutor wants judge removed from highway slaying case

LEBANON, Ohio (AP) — Prosecutors are asking that an Ohio judge be disqualified from handling a highway slaying case because his nephew is the prosecutor for a related murder and kidnapping case in Kentucky.

The Warren County prosecutor has requested that Common Pleas Judge Robert Peeler be disqualified from the trial of 41-year-old Terry Froman of Brookport, Illinois. The Hamilton-Middletown Journal-News (http://bit.ly/1vjAiDY ) reports the prosecutor contends that if Froman is convicted, the defense could argue bias in later appeals.

Froman has pleaded not guilty to charges alleging he killed his estranged girlfriend’s 17-year-old son in Kentucky, then kidnapped and killed her before being arrested Sept. 12 on Interstate 75 north of Cincinnati.

Peeler’s nephew is prosecuting the Kentucky case.

A message was left for Peeler on Wednesday.
