Proposed school boundaries in Fayette County complete

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Fayette County Public Schools Rezoning Committee has completed its proposed new boundaries for elementary, middle and high schools.  The plan will be presented to the public on April 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Norsworthy Auditorium at 701 East Main Street.

Updated maps will be posted online at www.fcps.net/zones.  There will also be poster sized versions of the maps at the district office and in every school. The Fayette County Board of Education has the final authority to approve the new boundaries, including making any changes to the committee’s plan.

Below is a letter sent out Wednesday evening by the School Rezoning Committee Chair, Alan Stein.

Dear FCPS Families:

The School Rezoning proposals are complete.  After nearly a full year of work, the School Rezoning Committee has finalized maps for elementary, middle and high school attendance zones.  We will present the draft plan publicly on April 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Norsworthy Auditorium, which is located at the district office of the Fayette County Public Schools, 701 East Main Street.

Updated maps will be posted online at www.fcps.net/zones as soon as possible.  We will also be printing poster sized versions of the maps and have them available at the district office and in all of our elementary, middle and high schools.

During the public meeting on April 14, community members will have the opportunity to share any questions, concerns they have about the final proposal.

The committee will not be revisiting any of its decisions. However, the members of the Fayette County Board of Education will be in the audience that evening to hear all of the public comments because the decision will now rest with them.

Some of the changes we made this evening included slight adjustments to the boundaries of Beaumont Middle, Leestown Middle, Winburn Middle, Bryan Station High, Henry Clay High, Lafayette High and the new high school, which will open in the fall of 2017.

It is important for everyone to understand that the school board will have the final authority to approve the new school attendance boundaries, and they may choose to make changes to our proposal.

Materials, including links to videos of the work from our meetings, are being posted online at www.fcps.net/zones.   We also have an online engagement tool called “Let’s Talk,” where you can submit comments to be shared with the school board.  Please visit www.fcps.net/letstalk to submit input.

Sincerely,

Alan Stein

School Rezoning Committee Chair
